Founded in 2015 by Edinson Vaquiro along with Volcafe in Planadas, Tolima, Colombia, Waylan Origin was born with a clear mission: to foster the growth of the local coffee industry and empower the next generation. This organization is dedicated to advancing sustainable practices, quality control, and ethical trade within the coffee sector. Through extensive training and educational programs, Waylan Origin supports young coffee farmers in enhancing the quality of their beans and accessing global markets. The municipality of Planadas is the third most important in Colombia in terms of coffee production and with good reason, the topography and climate are both excellent. Planadas has lots of mountains (21) and a peak altitude of 2350 metres above sea level. The high altitude and volcanic soil is perfect for growing high quality coffee. Over the years, Waylan Origin has played a pivotal role in the economic and social progress of Planadas, instilling a sense of pride and empowerment within the community. By fostering innovation and improvement, Waylan. Origin has propelled local coffee producers into the global spotlight, earning recognition for their outstanding coffees in specialty markets worldwide. The Gesha Lot from Finca Tres Esquinas exemplifies Waylan Origin’s commitment to excellence. The production process begins with a meticulously controlled 32-hour fermentation period post-harvest, during which the coffee cherries are depulped to develop Gesha’s characteristic flavors—highlighting notes of lemongrass, mango, plum, herbs, and floral spiciness. Subsequently, the beans are washed and sun-dried for 10 to 14 days on beds or drying patios, ensuring optimal moisture content and preserving the coffee’s complexity. Waylan Origin’s journey epitomizes positive change within the coffee industry, emphasizing sustainability and shaping the future of coffee production in the Planadas, Tolima region.
