The El Pital blend is named after El Pital hill, sitting at 2,730 MASL. It is considered the
highest place in El Salvador and enjoys a cool climate almost all year round. This is a
binational hill as it sits on the border with the Republic of Honduras. Part of the hill belongs
to San Ignacio, El Salvador and the other to Ocotepeque in Honduras. In the past, this area
was a hive of volcanic activity, resulting in the mountain being composed of volcanic rock.
The soil is therefore very fertile, and the high altitude that can be found here creates lots
of humidity and precipitation.
This is a place of great environmental importance as it is home to a humid forest that
supports the natural ecosystem, it is also home to many native wild species, especially
those considered endemic or under threat of extinction. This forest maintains the
ecological balance and life in the area, both for animals and plants. And this healthy environment directly impacts the nearby coffee growing areas where this blend is grown.
