Farmers in Ethiopia pick 3-4 times during harvest season. In Yirgacheffe specifically Adame region, most coffee is sold as red cherry. This is because land size per farmer is relatively small and thus the production is small so farmers take the opportunity to sell as soon as the harvest starts especially the first and second pickings. The third and fourth picking depedning on the financial situation of the farmer they dry the cherry on small patio and sell after february as a way of value adding as these dried cherries cost more. Farmers use this coffee as we use money in the bank. They sell it whenever they need the cash.
