La Serenata Organic
Huehuetenango is known for being rich in culture and traditions, regionally recognized for being one of the most musical departments in Guatemala. Locally known as the cradle of great marimba masters, excellent composers and great poets who have influenced the culture and identity of the country. One of its representative activities is “La Serenata Huehueteca” or “La Serenata del Día de los Santos”, which is celebrated during the night of Holy Wednesday each year, on the eve of All Saints’ Day. This is how little by little music has become part of the identity of this region and of the coffee communities where this coffee grows.
The small-scale coffee growers who contribute to the La Serenata blend are part of the our Organic Value Chain Project in Guatemala that we launched in 2022. The project opened the opportunity to work with small-scale producers who have implemented in their farms organic practices but that face several obstacles when trying to enter the specialty coffee market and earn a living income. Each producer has their own micro mill where they carefully process coffee cherries, mostly varieties such as Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and Pache. These coffee growers have access to technical assistance, feedback on quality, as well as higher quality premiums that provide economic security and recognition for their hard work.
