Kiunyu Coffee Factory is a wet mill established in the 1960s under the Karithathi Farmers’ Cooperative Society. The factory processes high-quality Arabica coffee from smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga County using the fully washed method.

LOCATION
The factory is located in Ngariama Location, Kabari Sub‑ Location in Kirinyaga County, serving farmers from Kianduma, Kiambuku, Kiambatha, Gature, and Kiamuki villages.

PRODUCTION
Annual cherry deliveries have consistently grown, exceeding 960,000 kg during peak seasons, reflecting strong farmer participation and improved agronomic practices.

PROCESSING – FULLY WASHED
Ripe cherries are hand‑ picked, mechanically pulped, fermented overnight, washed, soaked, and dried on raised tables. This process enhances clarity, brightness, and flavor definition.

SUSTAINABILITY
Wastewater is directed to soak pits away from natural water sources. Farmers are encouraged to plant trees and integrate shade trees such as Grevillea and Macadamia.

MANAGEMENT & FARMER WELFARE
The factory is managed by a Factory Manager supported by staff. Members benefit from access to farm inputs on credit and seasonal cash advances.
