A BIT OF CONTEXT

Capitán Organic is the result of the hard work of several communities in Chiapas, located in Ángel Albino Corzo, Capitán Luis Ángel Vidal, La Concordia, and Montecristo de Guerrero. This coffee is produced along the well-known coffee-growing region of Ángel Albino Corzo and the important economic corridor of Frailesca and Sierra Mariscal, in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas, Mexico.
The coee is grown using environmentally friendly, organic practices, free from fertilizers and other agrochemicals harmful to the soil and biosphere. Chiapas is recognized as the largest producer of organic coffee in the country.

LANSCAPES OF ORIGINS

The coee farms are influenced by the microclimates of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve (Sierra Madre del Sur), a UNESCO-protected area that preserves 10 of the 19 types of vegetation found in Mexico and is home to some of the country’s most threatened ecosystems: the cloud forest and the rainforest.
Its diverse microclimates and ecosystems create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation, which, along with beans and corn, plays a crucial role in the region’s economy and food sovereignty.
Coffee plantations thrive at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 meters above sea level, coexisting with other plant species under a tree canopy that shields them from direct sunlight—an approach known as traditional polyculture.
These agroecological systems oer significant benefits for biodiversity, farmers, and climate resilience. They capture carbon, provide a safer habitat for flora and fauna, and contribute to producing higher-quality coffee. Additionally, some farmers have begun diversifying their income by offering environmental services and participating in the conservation of El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
