Mataba Washing Station belongs to Muhondo Coffee Company and is located in Bukonya District. This washing station is run by Solange, who’s the station manager there. Mataba Washing Station is smaller compared to Muhondo, however, the fertile soils and the location at 1750m offer ideal growing conditions. Coffee has only started to become more popular in this region. In the past, people have mainly grown crops such as bananas and pineapples. In this region the POP variety is more and more used. It is a bourbon type with bigger cherries and a good yield. Nevertheless, up till now it has only been used for internal consumption not for exportation.
