Burundi is situated on a plateau at an altitude of 1400m – 1800m. The coffee in the Gitega region is grown on terraces due to the hilly landscape. This coffee is produced by a small group of local farmers on limited acreage and processed and dried at the Mboneramiryango Washing Station, which is located in the Gitega region. 

Due to the hilly landscape, the coffee in the Gitega region is grown on terraces. The precipitation is lower than in other regions of the country.
