The story of the Belismelis family in coffee begins with Don Emilio Belismelis who came to El Salvador in 1863, coming from Cádiz, Spain. Don Emilio settled in the department of Santa Ana, and dedicated his life to growing coffee and raising his family in the country. Currently the coffee part is managed by the fifth (Raul Alvarez Belismelis) and sixth (Sebastian Alvarez Borgonovo) generation from the Belismelis family, incorporating new generations to fall in love with the coffee sector.
The family group has 15 farms in all the coffee-growing regions of the country, totaling 880 ha, the majority being in the western part of the country. The Belismelis family continues to believe in the coffee sector, maintaining and investing in the properties. All the farms of the family group maintain certifications such as the Rainforest Forest Alliance, which keeps them hand in hand with social welfare projects for the people who collaborate on the farm. Through the collaboration with Los Volcanos Coffee we’ve improved the practices at farm level creating higher guality and high yielding coffee while lowering costs of production.
And although the farms don’ have their own wet mill and dry mill, we process everything at Beneficio San Miguel.
Los Volcanes’s Lab in Antigua Guatemala cups daily lots from the farms and gives us feedback to create prompt and real time adjustments that allows us to have consistent and unique profiles up to the very end of harvest.
