This particular Yirgacheffe Idido coffee station is owned by Tracon Trading. More than 452 nearby farmers as shown in this picture deliver cherries to throughout the harvest season. Farms in Yirgacheffe are mostly planted under native indigenous trees. Some of the shade trees in this area are Cordia Africana & Acacia Ensete. The common varieties are Kurume, Dega & Wolisho.
The cherries are grown at altitudes of 1950 – 2100 masl on adjacent farms, where farmers cultivate heirloom varieties. There are over 90 farmers delivering cherry and they work on farms that are 1 – 2 ha in size. The station produces around 9 tons of coffee per year.
Harvest & Post-Harvest
This coffee is processed using the washed method. The cherries are handpicked, then pulped to remove the mucilage. The beans are soaked for 48 hours and dried on African beds for 18 to 21 days.
